Welcome back to Slender Body Solutions health blog. Today we are starting part 2 of our discussion of protein and health. We can easily get all the protein we need to thrive from plants! Many of my friends choose a vegetarian lifestyle, some for ethical reasons others because it is light, healthy and affordable. Animals consume resources and produce waste which many see as unsustainable. Some people do not want an animal to die for their dinner, others see the high cost of animal protein as prohibitive. Whatever your reason for choosing vegetarian protein sources you will see that it leaves you with a world of fun food choices!
Protein is present in varying amounts in vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and grains. Some vegetarian sources of protein are incomplete by themselves and need to be combined to get all 8 essential amino acids. It is important to note that while it is nice to combine them in one meal it is not necessary. One trick to eating a healthy vegetarian diet is consuming a variety of foods, check out this great information from The Vegetarian Resource Group.
