When you start our program at Slender Body Solutions we ask you to burn 500 calories a day. I thought it would be nice to open a new segment of our weight loss blog, dedicated to explaining how to use different types of exercise to achieve this goal. Today let us talk about a simple exercise that most of us can do for free! Running is an inexpensive form of activity that is practiced all over the world. Some of the benefits from this calorie burning activity are increased strength of the heart, lungs, leg muscles and bones. For the small price of a pair of shoes, you can lose weight and feel great!
Before beginning any exercise regimen please consult your doctor to avoid any possible issues. It is also important to stretch properly before you work out. Here is a pre run “active stretch” routine from the experts at Runner’s World. Remember to start slow and work your way up. Consistency will help you to attain your goal and I find it hard to keep going if I overdo it. Many people have success starting out running for two minutes and walking for one. You can gradually increase your running with less walking breaks as you progress. Look for places to run near your home or work. My favorite spot is a park near my house with a nice path, you can also run around your neighborhood, or on a treadmill.
To burn 500 calories running depends on your size and the intensity of your activity. People who are larger will burn more calories than a smaller person and of course you will burn more calories with more effort. So if you like to start by jogging at a slow pace it would take about 60 minutes to burn 500 calories. This activity could be done at once or broken into multiple sessions throughout the day. If you prefer to run at a brisk pace, then you can burn 500 calories in about 30 minutes.
Slender Body Solutions is here to support your weight loss goals! Remember that starting a new activity can be more fun with a friend. There are many ways to find a running buddy, such as using websites like meetup.com. Ask a friend to train with you, make a goal of running a 5k race. Make sure to allow for two months or more to prepare for the big day! Here is a link to a training schedule. Running is a great way to burn calories and unwanted fat. So strap on some shoes, get warmed up and start running towards a leaner healthier you!
